Physical Education is an integral part of the total educational program. Our courses provide opportunities through activity for physical, mental and social development, and improvement of the individual to meet the challenges of life. It is our mission to empower all students to sustain regular, lifelong physical activity as a foundation for high school experiences, and also a healthy, productive and fulfilling life. The K-12 physical education program offers the students an age appropriate curriculum that promotes an understanding of a variety of activities that stress knowledge, competence, fitness, cooperation, and lifetime involvement in the benefits of being an active participant in sports and recreational endeavors. Physical Education provides educational experiences through movement activities. The general setting allows the development of social-emotional, psychomotor and cognitive skills as the students interact and have fun. The concept of fun is essential because the objective is to teach students to desire fitness as a lifelong goal. In today’s world of technology, it is important to understand the value of movement in our day to day lives. Some of the benefits of a good physical education experience are:
The Physical Education Staff provides the students with the opportunity to develop the body, mind and spirit. It is our vision to create an atmosphere of wellness that will extend into the community. The foundation of our program lies in physical fitness, social development, skill development and the acquisition of sport knowledge. Physical Education is required every semester a student is registered at Duanesburg Junior / Senior High School. The New York State Education Department requires that all students, regardless of existing condition, be provided a program in Physical Education, administered by certified Physical Education teachers. Physical Education is a state mandated requirement for graduation.

Standard 1 - Personal Health and Fitness Students will have the necessary knowledge and skills to establish and maintain physical fitness, participate in physical activity, and maintain personal health. Standard 2 - A Safe and Healthy Environment Students will acquire the knowledge and ability necessary to create and maintain a safe and healthy environment. Standard 1: The physically literate individual demonstrates competency in a variety of motor skills and movement patterns. Standard 2: The physically literate individual applies knowledge of concepts, principles, strategies and tactics related to movement and performance.
