Absences
Absences 1. Absences due to participation in school activities or religious holidays will not be assessed any deductions, but all classes, assignments and quizzes must be made up. 2. Students with excused absences will be given the opportunity to make up their missed classes and missed points after school, and free periods if available. 3. Students subject to extended, excused absences will receive accommodations for recovery of missed classes. A. If one or more PE Classes are missed and a student is medically excused, that student must make up the missed PE class within that academic quarter. B. A student medically excused for 3 or more PE Classes will be assigned independent research work in place of the missed classes. C. Failure to make up classes or complete assigned research assignments will result in a zero for each class the student is responsible for. |
Medically ExcusedStudents who are medically excused will fall into two categories.
Students who are completely restricted will be given alternate assignments (written work) to complete. Students who are not completely restricted will be given modified or alternative activities in which to participate. The work will be based on the current unit of study. All students are required to participate in physical education classes if they are medically able to do so. Absences from class due to medical reasons must be made up by the end of the marking period. Exceptions to this policy must be discussed and agreed upon with the student’s physical education teacher. Medical excuses required from the Health Office will be submitted to the student’s physical education teacher (by the school nurse). All students that are out of class due to a “medical” must report to their teacher each day they have physical education class to receive an alternative assignment. If the doctor has approved alternative activities that can be safely accomplished during class, a student may attend their regular physical education class to complete them. If a long term medical make-up assignment is given to the student by their teacher, an agreed upon due date will be established. |
